The game starts you with 350 Gold Pieces, and after the first battle, you'll receive moola for the number of foes you dispatch. As the game progresses, more allies will join your ranks, and in turn, you'll be able to purchase a bigger army The 20 battles you fight are all interconnected - that is, this is an ongoing story with as much detail as traditional fantasy role-playing games. And if you lose one of your leaders during any skirmish, he's history!

In Scenario 9, stay on land and let the Krakens (those giant squid creatures that appear at Turn 6) decimate the enemy's ranks before you take a crack. One thing all the scenarios have in common, though, is the game ends if Garrett bites the dust. On a Role Ok. So where do all those fantasy role-playing elements come in? As in traditional FRPG games, Prince Garrett and the other leaders gain experience with each battle they fight, and every tenth level they evolve into a more powerful character.
With experience, warriors get higher Attack and Defense ratings, which help shift the battle's outcome in your favor, and spellcasters gain more powerful spells and more magic points to cast them with. The best way to build all your characters quickly is to use your more powerful characters to whittle down the opposing army, then finish them off with characters who need experience. These are just some quick Warsong Romhacks that I did, to allow you to experience the game in a different way, I have not playtest these at all, it was just something I did real quick. There are five different hacks in the zip that follows. The first two, remove all troops from the game, you cannot hire them nor will you battle them. The difference between the two patches is that one patch give you more experience for defeating commanders then in the vanilla game. The next two patches, troops no longer give experience for killing them, with one of the patches again being that the commanders give you more experience.

The last patch is simply one where you are unable to hire troops, other then that it the same game. I might playtest these for fun. I already envision the NoOneHasTroops patches making the Albert scenario impossible, but I'll see when/if I get there. After all, I know these are just to see what happens, not meant to be balanced at all. For reference, my typical playstyle is to kill each enemy troop (or all but 1 or 2) before the commander 95% of the time, and I make the EXP gain on each character as even as possible because that's the most fun to me. I may change that for some or all of these playthroughs either for fun or out of necessity.
Edit: The NoOneHasTroops patch is not working for NPCs in Scenario 1, but it is working for your playable characters and enemies. This may be because the 'NPCs' in Scenario 1 are your allies later, but even the King has troops, so I don't know what's going on. Oddly enough, this patch even works with my Warsong rom that's patched to change all the names and art to their true Langrisser versions.I have now completed Scenario 1, and it was funny to see how Taylor now doesn't move to that 40% castle perch tile. Through copious amounts of savescumming, I was still able to fully clear the map, meaning without escaping even with barely getting Ledin all of the killing blows. At Scenario 2, Chris still has 'troops.'
Also, the Shika Tribesman reinforcement has full troops. At Scenario 3, Chris and Thorn have troops. I think it's safe to say all NPCs will have troops. As a result, Thorn just basically steamrolled anywhere he went until he hit an utterly phenomenal string of bad luck. Oh also, at Scenario 7, Lance and the 4th Commander have troops as reinforcements, so it's safe to say all reinforcements will have troops too. Speaking of Scenario 7, it's hilariously almost completely impossible even though Albert has troops because without enemy troops, the enemy commanders just beeline through Albert's troops and to him.
The only way I got through it was with extreme savescumming, and even then I didn't have enough time to kill the 1st Commander or else Lance and his 4th Commander would have killed one of my units. Although you should fix the patch to keep it true to its theme, it's a shame that Scenario 7 will become literally impossible as a result. And a funny thing happens with no troops: Some Enemy commanders just start moving immediately, even 'boss' commanders.
Anyway, at Scenario 10 I've played enough of NoOneHasTroops because I can tell that I will soon hit a wall where it's totally impossible due to lack of EXP even though I was focusing EXP on a few specific characters. I'll see how that patch with boosted CM EXP works out. Edit: Alright, got to Digos's scenario, Scenario 12, and.I realized I have hit a wall due to lack of EXP. The problem is that in Langrisser I/Warsong, you can only level once per kill even though you do get overflow EXP up to max EXP to the next level, so throughout the entire game with this patch, one kill=one level every time.
I also foolishly spread out the EXP for fun. I think the only thing that could work is letting only Chris kill every single thing possible to get to Ranger, but I still don't think that's possible.
Oh, and Albert's scenario was indeed impossible. In fact, now that he has no troops, he actually moves towards the enemy commanders out of the castle tiles, haha. I skipped his Scenario, but even if I repeated one of the past scenarios to make up for the lost EXP, I still would have hit a wall with Digos. Well, that's that. It was still entertaining, don't worry. It was like the shittiest Fire Emblem game ever. П˜› Unfortunately, I've completely run out of all motivation to try the other patches: NoTroopEXP, NoTroopEXPCM, and Unable to hire troops.
But I think it's worth double-checking the NoTroop patches to make sure reinforcement troops don't give exp and that reinforcement CMs have boosted EXP in the CM patch because of how the NoOneHasTroops patches were bugged at first. Yeah, when you have to level with Scenario Select, it feels pointless. Same with savescumming too much. If you have to savescum (keep reloading a save state until the battle goes your way) more than play normally, you're hardly playing anymore. Now that I think about it, NoTroopEXPCM could possibly work because in that one you can hire your own troops to whittle down commanders instead of your CMs having to always take heavy damage.
And um, maybe I'll playtest that if I remember, but I mean, Scenario 1 does have reinforcements and NPCs, I think, so if you confirmed it works there, then it should be fine.
